Texas Regional Bank was out at the Clear the Shelters event at The Laurie P. Andrews Pet Adoption and Wellness Services (PAWS) Center this past Saturday in Edinburg. Clear the Shelters is a national event to have all the animals at the shelter find a loving home in one day. “The mission of PAWS is an important one,” said Brent Baldree, CLO. “They work to find good homes for pets that have lots of love to give”. Although TRB has many animal lovers on their staff, it was Brent’s eleven-year-old daughter, Sofia, who wanted to do more at the event.
Sofia and her friends came up with the idea to have a lemonade stand and to donate all the proceeds to PAWS. She asked Paul Moxley, CEO of Texas Regional Bank for a donation for the lemonade stand. Being handy, Mr. Moxley built the stand. Sofia and her friends painted it and got it ready for the event. “It’s amazing to have lots of very young people wanting to make a difference,” said Moxley. “We want to encourage young people to get involved in their community and this was one way we could support their efforts,” he said.
“We love animals and PAWS is a great place,” said Sofia. The lemonade stand helped raise $622 and at $1 per cup that was a lot of work for the team making the fresh squeezed lemonade. “We hope the money goes to buy supplies and lots of toys for the animals to play with,” Sofia concluded. Overall the event was a huge success with 226 animals finding a loving home!
